اسٹارزکی انجریز نے ایشیا کپ کوآغاز سے قبل گہنا دیا

ڈحاکا: اسٹار پلیئرز کی انجریز نے ایشیا کپ کو آغاز سے قبل ہی گہنا دیا، افغانستان کے سوا کوئی بھی ٹیم ٹورنامنٹ میں اپنی فرسٹ الیون میدان میں اتارنے کے قابل نہیں ہے، پاکستانی بولنگ کوچ محمد اکرم نے امید ظاہر کی کہ عرفان کی کمی سے ٹیم کی کارکردگی متاثر نہیں ہوگی۔

تفصیلات کے مطابق ایشیا کپ کا آغاز منگل سے ہورہا ہے مگر اس سے قبل ہی کئی اہم پلیئرز کی انجریز نے ایونٹ کی رنگینی تھوڑی سی کم کردی، سب سے اہم غیرحاضری بھارتی کپتان مہندرا سنگھ دھونی کی ہوگی،وہ نیوزی لینڈ سے ہوم سیریز کے دوران سائیڈ اسٹرین انجری کا شکار ہوگئے تھے،ان کی جگہ قیادت ویرت کوہلی کے ہاتھوں میں ہوگی، انھوں نے کہاکہ محدود اوورز میں ہماری کامیابیوں کے مرکزی کردار دھونی ہی ہیں لیکن یہ ٹورنامنٹ دیگرکھلاڑیوں کیلیے بھی صلاحیتوں کے اظہار کا اہم موقع ہے۔

واضح رہے کہ پانچ ٹیموں کے اس ٹورنامنٹ میں صرف افغانستان ہی ایک ایسی ٹیم ہے جس کے تمام پلیئرز فٹ ہیں، پاکستان کو اس ایونٹ میں محمد عرفان کی خدمات حاصل نہیں جو ہپ انجری کا شکار ہیں، بولنگ کوچ محمد اکرم نے کہاکہ ہمیں امید ہے کہ ان کی عدم موجودگی سے ٹیم کی پرفارمنس متاثر نہیں ہوگی، ہم نے پیسر کے بغیر جنوبی افریقہ کو اس کے ملک میں شکست دی جبکہ سری لنکا سے بھی سیریز جیتی۔ آئی لینڈرز کو نوان کولاسیکرا اور رنگانا ہیراتھ کی خدمات تو پہلے ہی انجریز کے باعث حاصل نہیں تھیں، مگر بنگلہ دیش کیخلاف ایک روزہ سیریز کے دوران اس کے اہم اوپنر تلکارتنے دلشان کی انگلی ٹوٹ گئی جس کی وجہ سے وہ بھی شاید پورے ٹورنامنٹ میں دستیاب نہیں ہوں گے۔ میزبان بنگلہ دیش کے اوپنر تمیم اقبال بھی گردن کی تکلیف کے باعث ایونٹ سے باہر ہوچکے،آل راؤنڈر شکیب الحسن تین میچز کی پابندی کے باعث ابتدائی2مقابلوں میں شریک نہیں ہو پائیں گے۔

ایشیا کپ، بھارت کو5بار ٹائٹل جیتنے کا اعزاز حاصل

کراچی: 12واں ایشیا کپ منگل کو شروع ہورہا ہے، مسلسل دوسری مرتبہ علاقائی کرکٹ ٹورنامنٹ کی میزبانی کرنیوالا بنگلہ دیش اب تک ٹائٹل نہیں جیت پایا۔

بھارت کو سب سے زیادہ 5 بار ٹائٹل جیتنے کا اعزاز حاصل ہے، سری لنکا نے 4 مرتبہ ٹرافی اپنے قبضے میں کی، پاکستانی ٹیم 2بار چیمپئن بنی، 2012 کے ایڈیشن میں گرین شرٹس نے فائنل میں میزبان بنگلہ دیش کو سنسنی خیز مقابلے میں 2رنز سے پچھاڑ کر ٹائٹل اپنے قبضے میں کیا تھا، گرین شرٹس اس سے قبل 2000 میں بھی معین خان کی زیرقیادت علاقائی ایونٹ کی ٹرافی جیت چکے، سری لنکا کو ایونٹ کے سب سے زیادہ 43 میچز کھیلنے کا موقع ملا ،اس میں سے 29 میں فتح پائی، 14میں ناکامی کا سامنا رہا ، بھارت 39 میچز کے ساتھ دوسرے نمبر پر ہے، جس میں سے24 جیتے اور 14 میں حریف سائیڈز نے میدان مارلیا، ایک میچ بے نتیجہ رہا، پاکستان 35میچز کھیل کر 21 میں فتحیاب رہا جبکہ 13 میں شکست ہوئی، ایک مقابلے بے نتیجہ رہا، بنگلہ دیش 33 مقابلوں میں سے صرف 4 میں کامیاب ہوا جبکہ 29 میں ناکامی ہاتھ آئی، ہانگ کانگ اور متحدہ عرب امارات اپنے چاروں میچز میں ناکام رہے۔

ایشیا کپ کی تاریخ کا سب سے بڑا مجموعہ پاکستان نے 21 جون 2010 کو دمبولا کے مقام پر بنگلہ دیش کیخلاف 7 وکٹ پر 385 کی صورت ترتیب دیا، ایونٹ کی تاریخ میں سب سے کمترین اسکور کا منفی ریکارڈ بنگلہ دیش کے نام ہے، ٹائیگرز 2 جون 2000 کو گرین شرٹس کیخلاف 34.2 اوورز میں 87رنز پر ڈھیر ہوچکے، سابق سری لنکن اوپنر سنتھ جے سوریا کو 1220 رنز کے ساتھ ایشیا کپ کے ٹاپ اسکورر کا اعزاز حاصل ہے، پاکستان کی جانب سے سابق کپتان انضمام الحق کے 591رنز سب سے زیادہ ہیں، بہترین انفرادی اننگز کا اعزاز گذشتہ ایڈیشن میں یونس خان سے موجودہ بھارتی کپتان ویرت کوہلی نے چھین لیا تھا، کوہلی نے 18 مارچ 2012 کو ڈھاکا میں پاکستان کیخلاف ہی 183 کی اننگز کھیلی، اس سے قبل یونس کے 2004 میں ہانگ کانگ کے مقابل 144 رنز کو بہترین انفرادی اننگز کا اعزاز میسر تھا، سب سے زیادہ 6سنچریاں بھی سنتھ جے سوریا کے نام ہیں، سابق سری لنکن اسپنر متیاہ مرلی دھرن کو 30وکٹوں کے ساتھ ایشیاکپ کی تاریخ کے کامیاب ترین بولر کا اعزاز حاصل ہے۔

لاہور: محسن حسن خان کا کہنا ہے کہ ایشیا کپ میں پاکستان کو یونس خان کی کمی محسوس ہوگی۔

کپتان مصباح الحق کو تجربہ کار پلیئر کا ساتھ حاصل ہوتا تو بیٹنگ زیادہ متوازن نظر آتی، سنگاکارا و جے وردنے کی موجودگی میں سری لنکا ٹیم سخت حریف اور اسے فیلڈنگ میں بھی واضح برتری حاصل ہے۔ تفصیلات کے مطابق سابق ٹیسٹ کرکٹرمحسن حسن خان نے کہاکہ ایشیا کپ کیلیے پاکستان نے بہتر اسکواڈ کاانتخاب کیا، البتہ یونس خان جیسا تجربہ کار بیٹسمین بنگلہ دیش کی وکٹوں پر ٹیم کی فتوحات میں اہم کردار ادا کرسکتا تھا،انھوں نے کہا کہ سری لنکن بیٹنگ میں سنگا کارا اور جے وردنے نہ صرف ریڑھ کی ہڈی کا کردار ادا کرتے ہیں بلکہ کپتان اینجیلو میتھیوز کی رہنمائی میں بھی پیچھے نہیں رہتے، اگر مصباح الحق جیسے ان فارم بیٹسمین کی معاونت کیلیے یونس خان بھی موجود ہوتے تو گرین شرٹس اسکواڈ زیادہ متوازن ہوجاتا، احمد شہزاد اور شرجیل خان کی صلاحیتوں میں کسی شک کی گنجائش نہیں لیکن ان کو انتہائی ذمہ دارانہ کھیل کا مظاہرہ کرتے ہوئے بڑے اسکور کیلیے اچھی بنیاد فراہم کرنا ہوگی۔

محسن خان نے کہا کہ محمد حفیظ بطور اوپنر کھیلنے کا تجربہ رکھتے ہیں،تیسری پوزیشن پر بیٹنگ کرتے ہوئے ان کا کردار بھی انتہائی اہم ہوگا، صہیب مقصود کے پاس اسٹروکس اور اعتماد دونوں ہیں لیکن انھیں صورتحال کے مطابق کھیلنے کا ہنر سیکھنا ہوگا،فواد عالم جارحانہ مزاج کے بیٹسمین نہیں،انھیں موقع دینا ہے تو ٹاپ آرڈر میں کھلایا جائے، وکٹیں محفوظ رکھتے ہوئے اسکور آگے بڑھانا ہی پہلی ترجیح ہونا چاہیے جس کے بعد گرین شرٹس میں اتنی اہلیت ہے کہ آخری10 اوورز میں 100رنز بنا سکیں۔ محسن حسن خان نے کہا کہ سری لنکن ٹیم کی بیٹنگ میں آخر تک لڑنے کا جذبہ ہے،پاکستانی بولرز کی فٹنس اور ان کو استعمال کرنے میں مصباح الحق کی مہارت اہم کردار ادا کریگی۔آئی لینڈرز کی فیلڈنگ ایشیا میں سب سے بہترہے جس کی بدولت وہ میچ کا پانسہ پلٹنے میں کامیاب ہوجاتے ہیں، پاکستان کو اس شعبے میں سخت محنت سے اپنی خامیوں پر قابو پانا ہوگا۔

تفصیلات کے مطابق ایشیا کپ کا آغاز منگل سے بنگلہ دیش میں ہورہا ہے، اس میں پانچ ٹیمیں شریک ہیں جن میں سے بھارت سیکنڈ رینک، سری لنکا چوتھے، پاکستان چھٹے اور بنگلہ دیش نویں نمبر پر ہے جبکہ پانچویں ٹیم افغانستان ہے۔ حال ہی میں بنگلہ دیش کیخلاف تین میچز کی سیریز میں کلین سوئپ کی وجہ سے سری لنکا کو ایک ریٹنگ پوائنٹ ملا جس سے اس کے پوائنٹس کی تعداد انگلینڈ کے برابر 106 ہوگئی مگر اعشاریائی پوائنٹس جمع کرنے سے اس نے چوتھی پوزیشن حاصل کرلی جبکہ انگلینڈ کو پانچویں نمبر پر آنا پڑا، اب اس کو اپنی یہ نئی جگہ پاکستان کے ہاتھوں گنوانا پڑسکتی ہے مگر اس کیلیے گرین شرٹس کو اچھی پرفارمنس اور قسمت کی مدد بھی درکار ہوگی۔

Sri Lanka suffered a blow on the eve of the match when Mahela Jayawardene was ruled out of the two-match Twenty20 series after splitting a webbing in his left hand while taking a high catch during training.

For Sri Lanka, Angelo Perera, Suranga Lakmal, Ashan Priyanjan and Kithuruwan Vithanage were left out of the playing XI.

We need to finish matches better - Mortaza

Mashrafe Mortaza, Bangladesh' makeshift captain, has said that winning the crunch moments will be one of team's main targets for the two-match Twenty20 series in Chittagong.

Bangladesh got close on all their last four occasions they had to chase a target. But their main problem has been leaking runs in the last five overs, a theme that continued against New Zealand back in November, their last T20I. The two matches against Sri Lanka will be the hosts' last in the shortest format of the game until the World T20, which begins in a month, and will thus be crucial, particularly to settle the squad.

"We work on our weak spots harder as a team," Mashrafe said. "In one-day cricket there was a time when we couldn't finish matches, but now we play very well and can finish. In T20s we are going through such a phase. The only way we can get out of this process is by playing more competitive matches. Before the World T20s, this series will be a good practice for us. Hopefully, we can make full use of it to come out of this phase."

Bangladesh's last T20 win came in Zimbabwe when they leveled the two-match series. Since then, they have played only one game in this format, succumbing to defeat against New Zealand in Mirpur.

Mashrafe, despite struggling in the death overs of late, is expected to lead the bowling attack. He will have to make sure that he bowls in the right time that not only helps himself, but also the team.

"Bowlers have an important duty because three to four overs can make a difference in this game," he said. "They are working on their bowling and we will try to provide breakthroughs so that it becomes easier for the batsmen."

Bangladesh have picked the uncapped Arafat Sunny, Mithun Ali and Sabbir Rahman, while Farhad Reza has returned to the team after two years. It will be an interesting mix, particularly since there is a chance of all four being included in the playing eleven on Wednesday.

"Everyone has performed at every domestic level, and that includes first-class cricket," Mashrafe said. "It's difficult to compare one person to another but hopefully whoever gets the chance, will take the opportunity and play well."

Injured Jayawardene out of Bangladesh tour

Mahela Jayawardene has been ruled out of the limited-overs leg of the Bangladesh tour after suffering a hand injury. Jayawardene had split the webbing between the fourth and little fingers on his left hand during a practice session on the eve of the first Twenty20 in Chittagong and was later taken to the Metropolitan Hospital for stitches.

While the team management did not comment on Jayawardene's status soon after the injury, an SLC release on Wednesday stated that the batsman would return home, missing the two T20Is and three ODIs.

Jayawardene had suffered a similar injury while fielding in the first innings of the Dubai Test against Pakistan last month. After receiving stitches on the wound, he scored 129 the next day.

Battle of fast bowlers in pace-friendly venue

They are currently the first and third-ranked teams in the ICC ratings, but recent results suggest they are the two best sides. South Africa are clearly the best team at the moment - they have won eight and drawn six of their last 14 series - but Australia are coming off a fearful hammering of England at home, and have been far more impressive than India, who are currently second in the ICC rankings. However, Australia will take that spot from India if they win the series by any margin; even a drawn series will suffice if India don't win the second Test against New Zealand and level the series. Moreover, Australia were the last team to win a series against South Africa, when they won 2-1 in South Africa in 2008-09.

The fact that the series is in South Africa makes it even spicier, given that Tests between the two countries in South Africa are rarely ever drawn. Since their readmission into international cricket, South Africa have played 17 Tests against Australia at home, of which only one has been drawn; on the other hand, six out of 18 Tests between these two teams have been drawn in Australia. The only drawn Test between these two teams during this period in South Africa was in 1994, which means the last 14 Tests here have all produced results.

No matter where they've played, though, Australia have had the upper hand, winning roughly two matches for every Test they've lost. Their batsmen have averaged almost 35 runs per wicket, and scored 19 centuries in 17 matches. South Africa have averaged 28.77 runs per wicket with the bat at home against Australia, and scored 11 hundreds; they've done better with the bat in Australia, averaging 32.92 runs per wicket.

If it's a contest between these two sides, then the focus is always on the pace attacks, for that's always been the strength for both teams. Michael Clarke has announced that he feels Australia have the best pace attack in the world, but South Africa don't have a bad line-up either: Vernon Philander and Dale Steyn are the top two ranked bowlers, with Morne Morkel at No. 13. Australia have Ryan Harris at No. 3, Peter Siddle at No. 5 and Mitchell Johnson at No. 9. In the last three years, South Africa's fast bowlers have averaged 24.39 runs per wicket, compared to Australia's 26.70. Those are the two best averages among all teams, and the numbers indicate too that there's little to choose between the pace attacks of the two sides.

Moreover, these fast bowlers will have the added incentive of bowling in South Africa, where conditions have always favoured pace. In all Tests since the beginning of 2006, fast bowlers have averaged 28.87 in South Africa, the only country where they've averaged less than 30.

Australia's quick bowlers have usually enjoyed the conditions here. In the last series between the two teams here - in 2011-12 - South Africa's pace attack, led by Philander and Steyn, outdid Australia's, but in the series before that, Australia's fast bowlers were clearly dominant. In 2008-09, Australia's pace attack averaged 30.80 to South Africa's 36.46, and in 2005-06, led by Stuart Clark, they were even more dominant, averaging 21.68 to South Africa's 34.35.

The three South African fast bowlers in the current first-choice line-up all have excellent home records, with Philander, especially, being outstanding in his first ten home Tests. Australia's spearhead, Johnson, has had amixed time in South Africa: in 2009 he was on top of his game, taking 16 wickets at 25, but he had a terrible tour in 2011-12, taking three wickets at 85 each.

The batting comparison
The battle for pace-bowling supremacy is a closely contested one, with little to differentiate the two teams, but what could separate the two teams is the batting, and in that aspect South Africa look more solid, even without Jacques Kallis. In the last three years, South Africa's overall batting average of 39.03 is well clear of the other teams. Australia are in second place, just like in the pace-bowling department, but their average of 33.33 is significantly below South Africa's, who have scored 36 centuries in 24 Tests, compared to 39 in 35 Tests by Australia. Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis have formed a solid core for South Africa, while Michael Clarke has scored the bulk of the runs for Australia.

South Africa seem to have the more dependable batting line-up, but even they've had problems against Australia at home. Kallis averaged 41.22 in 29 Tests against Australia, but in 14 home Tests against them, he averaged only 33.62, with two centuries in 26 innings.

Among the batsmen in the current squad, Graeme Smith has had more problems against Australia at home than in Australia, with his average dropping by about five runs at home. Similarly, Amla's home average against Australia drops to 42.88 - which is still fairly healthy - from 51.10 in Australia.

Australia's best batsman has also had far more success against South Africa in home conditions: in six home Tests against them he averages 106.55; in five away Tests, he averages 34.11, though that also includes a fantastic 151 in Cape Town in 2011.

A venue for pace
To make matters worse for the batsmen, the first Test of the series will be played in Centurion, a venue which has been quite fast-bowler friendly in the last few years. Since the beginning of 2006, fast bowlers have averaged 28.88 here, and have taken 202 wickets at a strike rate of 50.7. Among venues which have hosted at least four Tests during this period, there are only five grounds where fast bowlers have a better average. On the other hand, spinners have averaged 44.65 here during this period, taking 38 wickets in eight Tests.

The list of leading wicket-takers in Centurion is filled with fast bowlers, and most of them have superb averages. Steyn has 36 wickets from six Tests at 17.61, Morkel's 17 wickets here have come at 23.41, while Philander has 12 at an average of 13.66.

Among the leading run-scorers here, Amla (678 runs at 84.75) and de Villiers (866 runs at 61.85) have impressive stats, but South Africa will miss Kallis, who is the leading run-getter here with 1267 runs at 70.38.

And apart from all these stats is South Africa's daunting record in Centurion: in 18 Tests they've won 14 and lost one, against England in 2000, in a Test in which both teams forfeited an innings each. Since then, South Africa have won 11 and drawn two in 13 games. No team has such an imposing record at any venue in Test history: with a 12-Test cut-off, the next-best is Pakistan in Karachi, where they've won 21 and lost two. Since 1990, the next-best win-loss ratio by any team is South Africa's record in Cape Town - the venue of the third Test - where they've won 18 times and lost thrice.

Australia have played only once in Centurion - way back in 1997 - and lost by eight wickets. That, however, was a dead rubber, as Australia had already won the first two Tests of the three-match series. When play begins at Supersport Park on Wednesday, there'll be plenty at stake for both teams.
